Professional Development

Since the beginning of the process, I have played an active role in curriculum mapping. To date, I have mapped the following curricular areas:

I have also been the WHBI Computer Coach and Lighthouse Teacher for the last 5 years. Some of my responsibilities include:

  • Providing instructional and technical support to faculty and staff
  • Chairing the WHBI Technology Committee
  • Keeping the staff abreast of technological develpments throughout the district, including advancements in technology as a result of the Capital Project
  • Designing and implementing staff development courses to help teachers integrate technology

I have posted some samples below to illustrate. Click on any of the pics for a larger view.

WHBI Technology Goals

Each spring, the WHBI Technology Committee creates a set of goals related to technology that we will work toward for the following school year. The sample below happens to be from this school year, but this is basically how they have looked for the last few years in our building. I'm proud to say that these detailed and specific goals have helped many of the teachers and students in WHBI do great things.

eClass Grades

For 2 years, the teachers in the WHBI building used the eClass Grades software as their main student data and grade program. Another colleague and I were trained to use eClass Grades and we were able to practice with it for one school year before developing materials like those shown below to train the rest of the faculty. This very technical program called for us to lend a lot of support throughout its implementation.

Training Survey

This is a survey that I created and distributed to the staff in preparation for a half-day of professional development in technology. While this document is a few years old (pre-Capital Project), I think it demonstrates a few things. First, I think it shows how far we have come with technology. Many teachers have embraced the programs that we offered at this training and integrate them regularly. Second, I think that the content of our training courses has changed. This particular workshop really focused on "how" to use particular programs, whereas today's center around integrating it as a teaching tool.

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is an online reading program that assesses and tracks students' reading vocabulary and comprehension. WHBI purchased this program a few years ago and many of the teachers were interested, so I created a guide and offered some after school training.

Blogging

This was my most popular and most attended training. I think that blogging was the "buzz" at the time that this was held. Many teachers had heard about it online and from their colleagues. It was exciting to see their interest and involvement!
